About
Where the gear comes from matters. We went and found it ourselves.
Our Mission
Puget Sound Rods connects the Pacific Northwest to the regions that have spent decades perfecting fishing-tackle manufacturing.
Indonesia and Malaysia aren't a shortcut around Japanese engineering — they're where much of it already happens. Shimano has manufactured fishing rods in Indonesia since 1993, and builds reels in Malaysia alongside Daiwa's own Malaysian production lines. We source directly from manufacturers working in that same base of expertise: precision tooling, carbon-fiber technology, and decades of tackle-specific craftsmanship.
Our purpose is simple: bring that craftsmanship home, and build gear around the fish, techniques, and waters we actually know.
Great equipment doesn't have to be the most expensive. World-class manufacturing doesn't have to come from just one country.
It comes from the right combination of materials, engineering, craftsmanship, and purpose.
Global expertise. Direct relationships. Brought to the Pacific Northwest.
Our Story
Puget Sound Rods started with a simple frustration: the best fishing tackle in the world wasn't reaching the anglers who needed it most. Pacific Northwest fishing — salmon runs, squid jigging under the lights, lingcod on the reefs, steelhead in cold rivers — demands gear built for specific, often unforgiving conditions. Too much of what filled local shelves was built for a different fishery entirely.
So we went looking for something better. Not through importers three layers removed from the factory floor, but directly at the source — the manufacturing regions of Indonesia and Malaysia, where decades of Japanese-influenced engineering and precision tackle production already exist. We built relationships instead of purchase orders, and started developing gear around the water we actually fish.

Our Approach
Every product starts the same way: a direct relationship with a manufacturer, not a catalog order. We evaluate materials, tooling, and production standards in person before a single piece of gear is imported.
Then it gets tested — not in a lab, but on the water. Local anglers run it through the same abuse Puget Sound throws at every angler out here: saltwater corrosion, current, cold, and the specific demands of salmon, squid, lingcod, and rockfish. If it doesn't hold up here, it doesn't go on our shelves.
